JonBenét Ramsey’s father has made a bombshell statement 28 years after his daughter’s death.
For nearly three decades, speculation has surrounded the unsolved murder of JonBenét Ramsey, who was found dead in the basement of her family’s Boulder, Colorado, home on Christmas morning in 1996.
The case, which has captivated the public, has seen a long list of potential suspects, including members of her own family and various unrelated individuals.
Among those considered were her parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, as well as her older brother, Burke, who was nine years old at the time.
Others include convicted pedophile Gary Oliva and former teacher John Mark Karr, who falsely confessed to the crime in 2006 but was never charged.
But now, John Ramsey has shared a shocking claim.
John believes another individual may be responsible for his daughter’s murder – a masked intruder who attacked a 12-year-old girl in Boulder, just nine months after JonBenét’s death.
This suspect reportedly raped the child before fleeing when her mother intervened.
“To me, it could easily have been the same person,” John said in an exclusive interview with People.
Yet, he claims that authorities dismissed this theory outright. “The police blew it off as, ‘No, it’s not the same,’” he recalled.
John’s comments came ahead of the release of the Netflix docuseries Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey?, which began streaming on November 25.
The three-part series revisits the infamous case, highlighting what John perceives as investigative missteps that hindered the search for his daughter’s killer.
The investigation initially focused on the Ramsey family, partly due to the presence of a ransom note found inside their home.
JonBenét, who had suffered both strangulation and blunt force trauma, was also sexually assaulted.
Her parents became prime suspects amid intense media scrutiny, which John believes only compounded investigative errors.

John and Patsy Ramsey consistently maintained their innocence, and no charges were ever brought against them or Burke. Patsy passed away in 2006.
Reflecting on the case, John remains hopeful that advancements in DNA analysis and genetic genealogy will finally lead to the identification of the person responsible.
He urges law enforcement to embrace modern forensic techniques and hopes that new leads will emerge.
“I think the method of operation was exactly the same,” he told People when discussing the attack on the 12-year-old girl.
“I believe the killer was in the house when we came home, waited till we went to sleep.”

The similarities between the two cases, according to John, extend beyond timing and location.
The 12-year-old victim lived just two miles away and attended the same dance studio as JonBenét.
Her family, like the Ramseys, had an intruder in their home before the attack occurred.
“They came home, set the burglar alarm, and the killer was already in the house. A very similar method, and yet the police blew it off,” John stated.
He also noted that the same investigator was assigned to both cases.
“Even the father of the little girl said, ‘On a scale of one to 10, I rate the police minus five.’ They just … just bone-headed ignorance. But yes, I think that was very possibly the same person.”
